Job Purpose and Impact

A Material Handler is responsible for staging, transporting, and dumping all packaged dry ingredients into the chocolate paste batching systems.

Key Accountabilities

Principal Accountabilities

  • Follow all Food Safety (HACCP), GMP’s, WHMIS, Occupational Health and Safety, and Environmental programs
  • Manually lift and dump ingredients into specified hoppers (up to 55 lbs)
  • Measure ingredients and document amounts and lot #’s according to formulas
  • Maintain raw material inventory logs and reconcile daily
  • Empty and wash garbage bins used in Batching department
  • Contact Supervisor/Operator 1 or 2 and/or Maintenance personnel in the event of any problems with the equipment
  • Clean work areas and equipment as assigned or scheduled
  • Must obtain forklift license, and use pallet handling equipment to move product or ingredient materials as required
  • Maintain all production areas in a neat and clean condition
  • Properly account for any ingredient spills or scrap
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Batching Supervisor/Operator 1 or 2

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be legally entitled to work for Cargill in Canada
  • Cargill requires that employees be a minimum of 18 years old
  • Must have keyboarding skills for data inputting
  • Minimum of 1 year related food manufacturing experience and/or training
  • Ability to understand and communicate effectively in English (verbal/written)
  • Strong mathematical skills
  • Ability to perform physical job duties which may include bending, lifting up to 55 lbs, kneeling, climbing and twisting safely, with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to work in elevated areas (4 feet and above)
  • Ability to operate machinery or industrial equipment
  • Ability to work in various temperature environments
  • Ability to work overtime including weekends, holidays, or different shifts

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office software, with an emphasis on Excel and Word. 
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), such as SAP
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Forklift or Walkie experience
  • Basic maintenance experience
