The city of Chambly is both an economic and a historical center after the construction of Fort Chambly, which is now a historic monument. Deriving its name from the Commander of the Carignan-Salière Regiment stationed at the Fort, Jacques de Chambly, the town of Chambly sits at the foot of the rapids of the Richelieu River and is one of the most flourishing towns in the Monteregie region with a population of more than 21,500. Located 20 minutes from the outskirts of Montreal, Chambly is an important tourist area in the region, welcoming more than 300,000 people per year thanks to its monuments and numerous festivals.
