Job Purpose and Impact 

The oilseed processing facility in Newcastle consists of seed receival and storage, preparation, extraction, refining, packaging, tank storage facility, truck loading, shipping terminal and the necessary utilities and infrastructure.

The Laboratory Co-ordinator is a hands-on role responsible for laboratory testing and coordinating daily laboratory activities to ensure accurate, timely and compliant results that support our Newcastle and Narrabri operations.  This is an opportunity for a motivated and organised individual to take ownership of laboratory workflows, work closely with site teams and contribute to the ongoing success of our manufacturing operations.

Key Accountabilities 

  • Coordinate day-to-day laboratory operations, including sample receipt, workflow prioritisation, testing schedules, turnaround times, and training to ensure efficient laboratory performance.
  • Perform routine and non-routine laboratory testing in accordance with approved methods, SOPs and quality standards, to ensure accurate, timely and compliant delivery of results that support manufacturing operations.
  • Maintain laboratory records and reporting systems, to ensure test results are accurately documented, abnormal or out-of-specification results are identified, and issues are escalated in line with site procedures.
  • Coordinate laboratory equipment calibration, verification and maintenance activities, support troubleshooting of analytical instruments, and manage laboratory consumables, housekeeping and safety requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with GMP, HACCP, food safety, quality and regulatory requirements, while supporting audits, continuous improvement initiatives and the ongoing enhancement of laboratory and operational performance.

Qualifications and Experience 

  • Degree in Chemical/Process Engineering preferred, alternatively a Science, Chemistry or related qualification or significant laboratory experience, ideally within a food manufacturing environment.
  • Experience conducting laboratory testing and accurately maintaining test results, technical records and documentation.
  • Sound understanding of laboratory testing procedures, quality control principles, and food safety, quality and hygiene requirements within manufacturing or regulated environment. 
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to prioritise work, manage competing demands and maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and laboratory systems, with the initiative and willingness to contribute to continuous improvement activities and support safe laboratory operations.
