Job Purpose and Impact
Cargill Law is seeking a dedicated and skilled Patent Paralegal to join our dynamic Global Intelectual Property Team. This position is perfect for someone who is an independent worker and can efficiently handle a variety of patent-specific tasks related to the preparation and prosecution of patent applications worldwide. The role requires a high level of professionalism, as it involves frequent communication across Cargill’s R&D function and global businesses and external resources such as foreign agents, outside counsel, vendors, and patent offices.
Key Accountabilities
- Ownership of client-specific patent dockets and working directly with patent attorneys and agents to ensure all deadlines are met.
- Prepare and file U.S. and PCT applications in-house and manage foreign filings with vendors and foreign agents.
- Ensure accuracy and completion of patent-related documents such as powers of attorney, assignments, declarations, information disclosure statements, office actions responses, and other PTO communications.
- Manage invention disclosure intake, patent filing plans, and assist with the maintenance of patent annuities.
- Collaborate across the IP team on ongoing continuous improvement efforts and other projects as needed will be expected.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum requirement of 2 years of relevant work experience
- Excellent communication, organizational, and planning skills and proven ability to set and meet deadlines
- Self-driven, have a strong sense of ownership and accountability, and be able to manage multiple tasks efficiently while maintaining a high-quality work product
- Highly collaborative, team-oriented, and process-honoring
- Flexibility and openness to change, embracing the use of Artificial Intelligence platforms, and willingness to take on new work based on department or business needs
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint, and OneNote
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s degree, bachelor’s degree, or paralegal certificate
- Experience with U.S. patent filing and prosecution tasks
- Understanding of foreign patent filing processes
- Proficiency in IP systems such as Anaqua docketing software
External Applicant Information
The expected salary for this position is approximately $30/hour - $40/hour. Compensation varies depending on a wide array of factors including but not limited to the specific location, certifications, education, and level of experience. The disclosed range estimate may be adjusted for any applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. This position is eligible for a discretionary incentive award. The incentive award amount is dependent upon company performance and your personal.
