Animal Care Technician
Job Purpose and Impact
The Animal Care Technician is primarily responsible for the execution of approved protocols for animal studies in a safe, accurate and timely fashion. In this role, you will conduct research trials, collect data that includes animal weight, feed information and various types of sample information. Also includes feeding and cleaning pens. You will also be responsible for providing standard animal husbandry and housekeeping duties.

Principal Accountabilities
• Maintain cleanliness and perform basic equipment troubleshooting for research equipment to ensure proper protocols requirements. (Scales, pressure washer, milk taxi, pallet jack)
• Contribute to continuous evaluation and improvement of experimental methodology, daily routines and procedures
• Maintain safe working conditions in accordance to our safety program and animal welfare standards and comply with animal policies
• Execute predefined protocols and standard operation procedures, like feeding, sample collection, animal observation, disease recognition for Calves and turkeys, accurate data compilation, observations, deviations and trial quality measurement are in time and in scope
• Handle administrative, technical or customer support issues under minimal supervision, while escalating only the most complex issues to appropriate staff
• Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Right to work in the U.S. that is not based solely on possession of a student visa or a visa sponsored by a third-party employer
- Cargill requires employees be a minimum of 18 years old to work in a production facility
- Able to understand and communicate in English (verbal/written)
- Ability to perform physical job duties which may include bending, lifting up to 50 lbs, kneeling, climbing, crawling, and twisting safely, with or without a reasonable accommodation
- Able to work in varied indoor and outdoor conditions which may include heat, cold, dust, loud noise, etc., with the use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to work overtime, weekends and holidays with advance notice
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience operating a forklift and/or warehousing experience
- High school degree or GED Equivalent
- Prior experience in production related work
