This position is in Cargill’s food and bioindustrial business, where manufacturers, retailers, and foodservice companies rely on us to consistently deliver the products and services they need, and use our technical expertise and market knowledge to develop innovative products. 

Job Purpose and Impact

The Chemical Plant Operator , will operate, perform preventative maintenance and troubleshoot basic issues for a series of machines and equipment in the use of chemicals to produce consumer products while following established policies and procedures and under frequent guidance. In this role, you will run analytical tests and ensure quality control during chemical processes and maintain a dynamic and continuous process flow that meets safety and regulatory compliance.

Job Type: Full Time
Shift Available: 12 hours shift (7am -7pm / 7pm-7am)
Compensation: $18.50/hr or greater, depending on experience
Shift differential $0.75/hr (2nd shift)

Key Accountabilities

• Monitor all critical operating parameters and make adjustments to the process as necessary
• Follow Batch instructions and procedures
• Safely handle (loading and unloading of bulk trucks, totes and drums) hazardous chemicals Caustic soda, Sodium Metal bisulfite, Bis-A Resin,Epichlorohydrin, Solvents
• Follow safe operating procedures and review and offer updates as necessary
• Understanding and adhering to all safety rules and regulations
• Maintaining a safe and clean work environment
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Right to work in the U.S. that is not based solely on possession of a student visa or a visa sponsored by a third-party employer
  • Be 18 years or older
  • High School diploma or Equivalent
  • Ability to perform physical job duties which may include bending, lifting up to 50lbs, kneeling, climbing, crawling, and twisting safely, with or without a
  • reasonable accommodation
  • Must be able to operate machinery and/or industrial equipment
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to work overtime including weekends, holidays, or different shifts with advance notice
  • Ability to understand and communicate in English(verbal/written)
  • At least 1 year of experience in production related work
  • Ability to work 12 hours shifts
  • Ability to work in elevated areas (4 feet and above)
  • Ability to work in in varied indoor and outdoor conditions which may include heat, cold, dust, loud noise, etc., with the use of personal protective
  • equipment (PPE)
  • Experience identifying and reporting safety risks

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Forklift certified
  • Prior HAZ CHEM/ Chemical industry experience
  • Experience with SAP, or similar enterprise resource planning (ERP) software
  • Ability to read and understand safety data sheets (SDS)
  • Prior technical /repair experience
  • Willing and able to cross-train in other, similar positions at the plant
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic processes
