Job Purpose and Impact

We are seeking a versatile and technically skilled Automation Technician to support our industrial operations. This role requires a foundational understanding of networking, electrical systems, computer software, and industrial automation. The ideal candidate will be proactive in troubleshooting, learning new technologies, and ensuring equipment connectivity and functionality.

Key Accountabilities

• Diagnose and resolve basic connectivity issues between industrial equipment and servers.
• Assist with IP configuration, switch connections, and basic network diagnostics.
• Perform voltage and continuity tests using multimeters and other diagnostic tools.
• Identify and resolve basic electrical faults in machinery and control panels. Up to 600V.
• Operate and learn machine-specific software interfaces.
• Support software updates and basic configuration tasks.
• Assist with setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of: Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Sensors (photoelectric, proximity, etc.), Scales and labelers.
• Maintain accurate records of troubleshooting steps and resolutions.
• Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding equipment status and issues.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Must be legally entitled to work for Cargill in Canada
• Cargill requires that employees be a minimum of 18 years old
• Basic knowledge of networking principles (IP addressing, switches, connectivity)
• Familiarity with electrical testing tools and safety procedures.
• Comfortable using computers and learning new software platforms.
• Exposure to industrial automation components and systems.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to understand and communicate in English (verbal/written)
• Ability to perform physical job duties which may include standing for prolonged periods of time, bending, lifting up to 50 lbs, kneeling, climbing, crawling, and twisting safely, with or without a reasonable accommodation
• Ability to work in varied indoor and outdoor conditions which may include heat, cold, dust, loud, noise, etc., with the use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Ability to work in elevated areas (4 feet and above)

Preferred Qualifications:

• Technical diploma or electrical, automation or instrumentation journeyman ticket.
• Hands-on experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
