This position is in Cargill’s agricultural supply chain business. We sit at the heart of the supply chain, partnering with farmers and customers to source, make and deliver essential products.
Job Purpose and Impact
The Senior Merchant will handle origination activities for a specific product, being involved in daily discussions with field representatives, big farms and cooperatives and middleman, but also with colleagues in the Hub.
Key Accountabilities
- Handle grains origination book for Romania
- Manage and develop close relationships with big farms and middleman having a deep understanding of suppliers strategies and behavior in order to design and execute a fit strategy
- Improve volumes, margins and provide meaningful market data to the group and team
- Accountable for reaching the budgeted results for the respective product
- Hedging local positions on Matif/CBOT
- Daily positions and daily profitability analysis
- Responsible for accurate P&L reporting to hub and P&L estimates reconciliation with finance department
- Pipeline management and planning, seek to have as small stocks as possible with no delivery interruptions
- Support local administrative flow on Short term debt, Forex, market exposure on own products, legal
- Assuming a leader role and attitude, whilst acting as a mentor to the younger team members
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience
Proven experience in commodity trading
Proficient in English and Romanian language
Broad understanding of commercial roles
Analytical skills and able to make quick decisions
Results oriented, ability to tackle risks
Strong negotiations skills
MS Office Suite (good level of Excel in particular)
Preferred Qualifications
Sound risk management knowledge and P&L knowledge
Strong product knowledge of the various components of possible customer solutions for clients
