Job Purpose and Impact
- The Advisor, Employee & Labor Relations develops and delivers employee and labor relations services in accordance with the organization's policies, legal, and regulatory requirements to help build a workplace culture that values employee wellbeing and fairness. As a recognized subject matter authority in employee and labor relations, this job provides thought leadership on the development and implementation of highly complex employee and labor relations policies and procedures and provides recommendations and consultation on how to handle employee and labor relations issues, while building a positive employee experience. This job also identifies and implements opportunities for improvement, and negotiates collective bargaining agreements.
Key Accountabilities
- CONSULTATION & SERVICE EXECUTION: Resolves highly complex employee and labor relations questions and mentors management and human resources partners, applying and maintaining knowledge of the organization's employee and labor relations policies and related employment regulations to enable successful and efficient service execution.
- EMPLOYEE & LABOR RELATIONS ISSUES: Provides thought leadership on employee and labor relations services, including leading investigations, resolving issues, and advising on report development in a timely manner, while ensuring adherence to the organization's policies, programs, processes and legal requirements.
- INVESTIGATIONS: Leads workplace investigations into allegations of misconduct, discrimination, harassment, or other policy violations, maintaining confidentiality and impartiality throughout the process while ensuring compliance with organization's policies and related employee and labor relations regulations.
- COMPLIANCE: Leads the identification and coordination of outreach, internally and externally, to enable businesses to meet their compliance obligations by ensuring accurate and up-to-date records related to employee and labor relations.
- TRAINING & EDUCATION: Designs and delivers training and consultation on employee and labor relations and compliance related topics, policies and procedures, ensuring internal partners are using the tools and resources available.
- REPORT REVIEW: Advises on the development of audits and compliance reports, and reviews reports for alignment and accuracy.
- POLICY DEVELOPMENT: Develops and delivers employee and labor relations policies and procedures to ensure compliance with employment and labor laws and regulations, applying master knowledge of laws and regulations and best in class industry standards.
- RISK MITIGATION: Leads partnerships with human resources and legal team members to assess and mitigate potential risks related to employee and labor relations issues, ensuring proactive measures are implemented to address any emerging concerns.
- NEGOTIATION: Negotiates collective bargaining agreements that align with the organization's goals and objectives while ensuring fair and equitable terms for both parties, and applies union and works council legal procedures and applicable negotiations for organization changes and restructurings.
- SEPARATIONS: Provides thought leadership to maintain and apply the knowledge of separations legislation and processes in the assigned markets, including conducting separation activities and mentoring human resources and managers on separations processes, crafting and overseeing applicable templates, and providing severance calculations and advice on options.
Qualifications
- Minimum requirement of 6 years of relevant work experience. Typically reflects 10 years or more of relevant experience.
