Job Purpose and Impact

The Policy Specialist will contribute to informing and guiding the company on policy and legislative affairs at European Union level. We seek a professional who will build and maintain relationships with trade associations, industry coalitions, EU decision makers and other public authorities to inform European Union policies and positions in the Food and Agriculture sector.   

Key Accountabilities

  • Act as a resource for monitoring on policy matters with regards to business interests and company priorities, ranging from agri-food and trade to animal welfare policies.
  • Help ensure that the organization's interests are represented and enhanced in EU legislative processes.
  • Participate as part of a team to develop and maintain tools and programs to ensure awareness of EU legislation that affect the organization.
  • Independently solve moderately complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating more complex issues to appropriate staff. 
  • Collaborate in the preparation and organization of forums and gatherings with government officials to exchange ideas and information on topics of interest to Cargill business activities 
  • Other duties as assigned 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor in Law, Economics, Political Science, and a master degree in European related studies
  • Proven knowledge of and experience with the EU decision making process
  • One or two years of related work experience in an EU institution, a consultancy, national administration or private sector

  • Hands-on, able to work independently but with the sense to know when to ask for help/advise
  • Team player
  • Intellectually curious. Strategic and critical thinker
  • Strong analytical and research skills
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both orally and in writing
