This position is in Cargill’s food and bioindustrial business, where manufacturers, retailers, and foodservice companies rely on us to consistently deliver the products and services they need, and use our technical expertise and market knowledge to develop innovative products. 

Job Purpose and Impact

The R&D Application Specialist Dairy & Dairy alternatives will provide bring technical expertise in Dairy & Dairy alternatives products (knowledge of the European market, processes & formulation). You will work with technical account managers (TAMs), product lines, quality teams & other experts in the R&D Cargill family to propose existing product solutions of the Cargill portfolio (starches, sweeteners & texturizers, cocoa & chocolates, oils & fats) or develop new solutions. In this role, you will design and conduct trials at lab scale & semi-industrial scale trials (in close collaboration with the pilot plant technicians & operators who runs the trials in a semi-industrial pilot plant dedicated to dairy & dairy alternatives), evaluate and report accurately and partner closely with  TAMs in alignment with the designated business strategy.

Key Accountabilities

  • Conduct research to translate and apply product development discoveries into customer solutions based on finished product formulation and processes applications.
  • Establish experimental work plans, execution, interpretation and reporting for start up projects and requests.
  • Plan and perform application work in laboratory and pilot plants (in close collaboration with the pilot plant technicians & operators) on projects;.
  • Accountable to lead application projects and requests, including jobs to be done, understanding and project presentations adapted to the audience.
  • Partner with the dedicated TAM(s) & other Cargill teams to provide solutions based on finished product formulations and processes in the designated region, including occasional customer visits and to bring expertise to our product lines to grow the business.
  • Maintain and develop in depth knowledge and expertise in order to meet the demands.
  • Independently solve moderately complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating more complex issues to appropriate staff.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum requirement of 2 years of relevant work experience. Typically reflects 3 years or more of relevant experience.
  • Fluency in English & French

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working experience in the dairy industry preferably hands on experience in pilot plant
  • Knowledge of manufacturing operations in the dairy industry
  • Comprehensive knowledge of ingredients: proteins, starches, hydrocolloids, oils and fats, cocoa & chocolates
  • Ability to partner and proactively communicate effectively with counterparts in matrix organization
  • Ability to prioritize activities to meet commitments aligned with organizational goals & timelines
  • Experience in project management.
  • Analytical statistics knowledge
