Job Purpose and Impact

The Rail Sourcing Specialist is responsible for securing competitive rail freight rates, analyzing shipment options to identify the lowest-cost solutions, and maintaining critical freight databases that support trading decisions and financial operationIn this role, you will participate in the identification and selections of the most appropriate and cost effective rail transportation option for shipment of protein and salt commodities that Cargill ships in North America and will also support the rail freight procurement activities for shipment of grain commodities.

Key Accountabilities

  • Apply a general comprehension of transportation and logistics practices and procedures to negotiate or assist in the negotiation of rail freight rates with Class I and shortline railroads to secure freight rates that competitively position Cargill in the market..
  • Maintain and update freight rate databases used by traders for customer pricing and by accounting for invoice validation. 
  • Independently evaluate rail freight rates for transporting products from Cargill facilities and competitors to customer destinations, identifying the most competitive shipping options and uncovering opportunities for cost savings.

  • Independently solve moderately complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating more complex issues to appropriate staff.

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum requirement of 2 years of relevant work experience. 
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Excel and other data tools.

Preffered Qualifications

  • Experience working with Microsoft systems, SAP’s Transportation Module, KNIME Analytics,Tableau, and Power BI.
  • Previous experience in Rail Freight Procurement or Transportation.
