Senior Counsel
Job Purpose and Impact
The Senior Counsel, as a critical member of the global law team and strong contributor to key business stakeholders, will provide proactive and independent thought leadership in alignment with the objectives of the law team predominantly for the Cargill Trade and Capital Market business, but also for Cargill's commodity trading businesses. In this role, you will engage with senior leaders across the law team and the business while maintaining strong external networks. You will autonomously apply subject matter expertise and skills to influence the business strategy, inform decisions, create innovative solutions to resolve challenges and educate stakeholders.
Key Accountabilities
- Provide proactive thought leadership and legal counsel on a variety of topics to law and business leaders to positively influence business outcomes.
- Apply core legal skills to area of responsibility to proactively handle systemic legal issues across the law team and business, anticipate legal risks, address legal needs and develop comprehensive understanding of business goals, drivers and external environment.
- Serve as a trusted partner to the law team, colleagues, clients and the business by anticipating internal and external business challenges and providing solutions to unique and complex problems that have a broad impact on the business.
- Emerge as a strong thought leader in the law team and for the business to proactively address conflicts and difficult issues.
- Maintain and enhance strong relationships with external networks to continue developing and adopting industry insights and best practices and proactively share learning across teams.
- Promote and advocate for an inclusive and collaborative work environment where diversity is valued and equity is championed.
- Provide expert consultative guidance for initiating strategic long-range goals and objectives. You may provide direction to supporting team members and be a strategic contributor.
- To independently drive desired legal outcomes on matters with support from colleagues in a legal team to achieve and bring positive impact for both legal team and business.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- Juris doctor or equivalent to practice law within the jurisdiction of Singapore.
- Deep expertise in the area of loan and credit, finance and trade finance but also a good grasp of the law in other legal areas such as regulatory, dispute resolution, regulation, risk management ad commodity trading.
- Experience working with a variety of people across regions or cultures, including leading or managing projects with a global initiative or leading a complex, international financing and dispute.
- Confirmed ability to bring issues to closure at business level proactively and with creativity and positivity.
- Ability to communicate complex ideas concisely and adapt communication to the unique needs of different audiences.
- Attention to detail, balanced with practicality and commercial awareness. Ability to see the bigger picture without losing sight of important details, to prioritize and to work calmly and think clearly under pressure.
- Minimum of six to eight years of related work experience.
- Fluent in written and spoken English.
