Job Purpose and Impact

The Food Safety Coordinator will support the facility teams with food safety and quality issues. In this role, you will collaborate with customers, regulators, suppliers and other key internal and external partners to resolve issues. You will oversee and execute incident management practices, assist facilities in the maintenance and execution of the food safety management system, document management, complaint management and trending and all compliance requirements.You will lead and complete internal audits to align facility procedures to corporate policies, while maintaining customer and regulatory compliance. You will lead and manage internal and external audits for the facility, while developing corrective action plans when deficiencies are found.

Key Accountabilities

Develop and lead the implementation of key food safety management system programs such as management of change and critical food safety tasks.

Contribute to closing of identified gaps at facilities to bring locations into compliance.Help track monthly business metrics and develop a process to improve understanding of the health of the food safety and quality systems at each facility.

Meet with onsite regulatory personnel to discuss plant concerns, provide corrective action plans, and close out non-compliances.

Interpret key regulatory requirements and how they apply to products and processes to ensure compliance.  

Define the company's customer complaint tracking and trending program to ensure proper complaint follow up and ensure that high priority complaints are dealt with urgently.Assist facilities with corrective actions related to product quality and lead the investigation and follow up of customer complaints.

Collaborate with plant managers and other facility leaders within a region to build and foster an effective food safety, quality and regulatory culture. Drive focus on corrective a preventative action implementation.

Define and lead the onboarding process for our location leaders and business regional leaders.

Participate on the search and selection of qualified candidates.Independently handle complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating only the most complex issues to appropriate staff.

Conduct and co-lead internal and external audits at the facility intended to evaluate and drive compliance with company, corporate, customer, and regulatory requirements and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

Analyze quality and food safety data, identify trends, and effectively communicate findings and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in science, chemistry, microbilogy, quality assurance or other applicable field or equivalent experience.,
  • Minimum of four years of related work experience
  • Experience working with food safety management systems, regulatory requirements, and industry standards, including HACCP, GMPs, Sanitation Programs, and applicable FDA, USDA, or CFIA regulations

Preferred Qualifications

  • HACCP Certification
  • Experience developing, implementing, maintaining, or verifying HACCP-based food safety programs
  • Experience managing food safety and quality metrics, trend analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • 2+ years of experience participating in or leading GFSI-recognized audits (SQF, BRCGS, FSSC 22000, or equivalent)
  • Six Sigma Green Belt Certification or equivalent training and experience in root cause investigation, corrective action development, and continuous improvement processes
