Job Purpose and Impact

The Packaging Developer will support all Food EMEA businesses (EOE, SST, CC, Protein, META, Russia) by driving packaging innovation, cost efficiency, sustainability, and compliance with the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). This role spans multiple product categories and involves collaboration with suppliers, R&D, commercial teams and global partners to implement new packaging solutions.


In this position, you will work on complex projects to develop and test a variety of containers designed for product protection, display, and handling across multiple categories and plants. You will define packaging specifications based on product requirements, cost considerations, legal standards and protection needs, ensuring resistance to external factors such as moisture, chemicals, temperature changes, light, heat, handling, and tampering.


The Packaging Developer will also contribute to digital transformation and data transparency in packaging compliance.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop and validate new packaging solutions aligned with business needs across all Food EMEA categories.
  • Lead PPWR-compliant design changes and support regulatory compliance initiatives.
  • Conduct experiments on various materials in a specialized laboratory setting, including analysis based on user requirements.
  • Coordinate projects involving the design and implementation of packaging for new or existing products across multiple categories and facilities.
  • Plan and conduct packaging laboratory studies to support material and design changes.
  • Prepare cost estimates and deliver packaging laboratory services for development projects, package qualification, and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with vendors, business leaders, R&D, marketing, product development, and production teams to strategize and implement innovative packaging solutions.
  • Build, modify, and test product materials for durability and cost-effectiveness; advise on efficient packing procedures.
  • Independently manage complex issues with minimal supervision, escalating only the most critical matters.
  • Support digitalization and data transparency for packaging compliance and traceability.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated relevant work experience and knowledge of technical standards, principles, theories, and concepts in packaging (e.g. bottling / IBC / bags)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience coordinating projects involving packaging design and implementation.
  • Familiarity with preparing cost estimates and supporting packaging laboratory services for development projects and package qualification
