This position is in Cargill’s protein and salt business, where we provide wholesome, high-quality food products to a wide range of customers, from foodservice operators and grocery stores to manufacturers and exporters.


Job Purpose and Impact

The Engineer will focus on optimizing operations and auxiliary functions associated with our underground salt mining facility. We seek a professional who will develop and apply engineering standards and procedures, providing advice on issues within the engineering field. In this role, you will help coordinate production process sequence and equipment layouts, project execution, plant reliability improvements, safety processes, and other operational support functions.

Key Accountabilities

  • Safely and independently navigate an underground mining environment and strong commitment to a positive safety culture, 
  • Execute effective stakeholder communication across all levels of the operation. 
  • Support plant production needs including but not limited to rock mechanics, underground surveying, ventilation, mapping, equipment reliability and optimization, and monitoring systems
  • Contribute to designing and improving mining and manufacturing processes, instruments and equipment, testing manufactured products to maintain quality. 
  • Establish methods to maximize use of production facilities and personnel.
  • Independently solve moderately complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating more complex issues to appropriate staff.
  • Prepare information to support business case development of capital improvements. 
  • Supervise teams performing critical work including working at heights, hot work, mobile powered equipment, and other activities in accordance with Cargill’s safety policies & procedures. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Position Information.

The expected salary for this position is $80,000 - $95,000 per year. Compensation varies depending on a wide array of factors including but not limited to the specific location, certifications, education, and level of experience. The disclosed range estimate may be adjusted for any applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. This position is eligible for a discretionary incentive award. The incentive award amount is dependent upon company performance and your personal performance.

  • This position is posted internally as well as externally. 
  • This position is located in Lansing, New York.
  • The work schedule is: Monday to Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. There are also some events that might need to work on the weekends. 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field OR equivalent experience. 
  • Minimum of two years of related work experience with heavy industrial environment such as mining, construction. manufacturing, etc. 
  • Ability and willingness to work in an underground mining environment. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a preferred field: Mining, mechanical, electrical, industrial, civil, environmental, geology, etc.
  • Practical experience in underground mining. 
  • Familiarity with federal MSHA safety standards. 
  • Experience with SAP system.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, mining specific software, etc.
