This position is in Cargill’s protein and salt business, where we provide wholesome, high-quality food products to a wide range of customers, from foodservice operators and grocery stores to manufacturers and exporters.

Job Purpose and Impact

The Automation Technician has the responsibility to execute the Automation strategy at this plant in accordance with business needs and corporate defined best practice standards and guidelines. Work including, but not limited to PLC programming, HMI programming, plant network architecture design/troubleshooting, control system design/upgrades and working with maintenance to troubleshoot existing systems and processes. Provide design assistance in the areas of automation, electrical and instrumentation for projects based on current best practices using approved components and standards. Provide expertise and/or support for internal and external resources during the execution of projects. 

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide troubleshooting expertise in the areas of automation, electrical, and instrumentation in support of the plant. 
  • To learn the facility functions (both the processes and the service groups). To continuously gain knowledge and experience in automation, electrical, and instrumentation. 
  • Provide programming and configuration expertise to support projects. 
  • Management of troubleshooting tools and documentation. 
  • Provide work orders and part number for SAP 
  • Tracking projects to completion 
  • This position is for a food processing facility environment.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technical OR Technical diploma  
  • Must be able to configure and program a variety of control systems including PLC and HMI systems. 
  • Have knowledge of programming languages. 
  • Must be able to update and troubleshoot a range of electrical or instrumentation systems. 
  • Ability to read and update electrical schematics. 
  • Ability to perform physical job duties which may include bending, lifting up to 60 lbs, kneeling, climbing, crawling, and twisting safely, with or without a reasonable accommodation. 
  • Ability to work in elevated areas (4 feet and above) 
  • Ability to work in varied indoor and outdoor conditions which may include heat, cold, dust, loud noise, etc., with the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) 
  • Ability to understand and communicate in English (verbal/written) 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office software, with an emphasis on Excel and Word 
  • Ability to work overtime including weekends, holidays, or different shifts with advance notice 

Preferred

  • 3+ years of AE&I experience
  • Knowledge of reliability centeres maintenance, planning and scheduling
  • Automation, Electrical, and / or Instrumentation experience, within the Allen Bradley family of controls
  • Knowledge of predictive technologies like MCE, vibration, infrared, ultrassound, machinery lubrication
  • Able to operate machinery and/or industrial equipment
  • Working knowledge of inventory systems
  • Prior experience in production related work
  • Instrumentation Certification
