This position is in Cargill’s protein and salt business, where we provide wholesome, high-quality food products to a wide range of customers, from foodservice operators and grocery stores to manufacturers and exporters.

The instrumentation and control Tech should be able to trouble shoot any type of Industrial instrumentation without limiting the regality of the foregoing includes the following: temperature, pressure, flow, analytical and level indicator, recorders, electrical controllers and sensors, density indicator and sensors.

Able to interpret, safely interact, repair and maintain: weight indicators and sensors, Scales indicators, pH indicators and sensors, oxidation reduction potential indicator and sensors, oxygen analysis equipment systems, gas analyzers, sending and indicating systems, electrical conductivity, indicator for measurement proximity, pneumatic, fluidic, robotic, fibre-optic, hydraulic and electronic transmitters, electronic transducers, electronic recorders, digital to analog and analog to digital converts, data acquisition systems, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA systems), programmable logic controller systems and distributed control and display systems, monitoring devices and alarm systems, hydraulic and electronic control devices and systems, valve positioners. Experience with Allen Bradley, PLC is a must.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Provide troubleshooting expertise in the areas of automation, electrical and instrumentation in support of the plant
  • Learn the facility functions (both the processes and the service groups) to continuously gain knowledge and experience in automation, electrical and instrumentation
  • Provide programming and configuration expertise to support projects
  • Management of troubleshooting tools and documentation
  • Provide work orders and part number for SAP
  • Tracking projects to completion including documentation
  • Understanding and adhering to all safety rules and regulations
  • Maintaining a safe and clean work environment
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Navigational and programing experience with Allen Bradley and PLC systems


Required Qualifications: 

  • Must be legally entitled to work for Cargill in Canada
  • Cargill requires that employees be a minimum of 18 years old
  • Instrumentation or Electrical Journeyman Certification or a valid Alberta Apprenticeship
  • Ability to understand and communicate in English (verbal/written)
  • Ability to perform physical job duties which may include bending, lifting up to 50 lbs, kneeling, climbing, crawling, and twisting safely, with or without a reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to work in varied indoor and outdoor conditions which may include heat, cold, dust, loud, noise, etc., with the use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Ability to work in elevated areas (4 feet and above)
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, different shifts, and holidays with advance notice
  • Basic ability to use a computer
  • Experience troubleshooting a range of automation or instrumentation systems


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • High School diploma or Equivalent
  • Experience with SAP or a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
  • Possess a valid Canadian full class 5 driver’s license in good standing authorizing you to drive independently during the course of your employment
  • Have knowledge of configuring and programming a variety of control systems including PLC and HMI systems (Allen-Bradley)
  • Three years of working experience in Automation and Instrumentation 
  • Experience working in food processing facility environment 
  • Experience troubleshooting programming technologies, such as Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Variable Frequency Drives (VFD)
  • Experience working on scales, printer, cameras, and scanner 
  • Experience with ControlNet, Device Net, Ethernet (Communication Networks)
