Laytime specialist
Job Purpose and Impact
The Laytime and Invoice Operator II will provide a high level of customer service to conduct moderately complex laytime calculations and negotiations, issue freight invoices, finalize voyages and have accountability for profit and loss. In this role, you will give advice to traders and operators on difficult laytime cases to ensure the efficiency in export and import of commodities from all the major and minor seaports across the world.
Key Accountabilities
- Facilitate routine communications with customers, brokers, traders, operations, freight accounting, laytime and commercial claims.
- Prepare freight invoiced after the review of the recap, base charter party, additional clauses and other commercial agreements, relevant communication inputs from vessel operators, maritime operations center and traders.
- Prepare demurrage calculations focusing activities to maximize profit and service quality with a customer.
- Conduct follow up and negotiations of laytime calculations with customers till agreement and handle general hire related claims.
- Work closely with the vessel operations desk for critical information from the physical operations of the ship, relevant for laytime and invoice accuracy, voyage performance and reimbursement of costs according to the charter party terms.
- Work closely with the credit control team for the follow up on due payments under freight or laytime invoices.
- Review charter party, certificate of authority, additional clauses and all relevant documentation from the vessels and port agents for the identification of potential gaps.
- Independently solve moderately complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating more complex issues to appropriate staff.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience
- Proficient with standard computer operations and applications like word processing, spreadsheets and data systems
- Minimum of two years of related work experience
- Other minimum qualifications may apply
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficient with trade systems or enterprise resource planning systems
- Experience as an administrative operator
- Experience in an administrative function with a preference for work related to shipping or commodity business
