This position is in Cargill’s food and bioindustrial business, where manufacturers, retailers, and foodservice companies rely on us to consistently deliver the products and services they need, and use our technical expertise and market knowledge to develop innovative products.
Job Purpose and Impact
The Automation Engineer helps to design, develop and maintain electrical control systems and/or components to required specifications, focusing on economy, safety, reliability, quality and sustainability. Do you enjoy researching, developing, designing and testing? In this role, you do all that with our equipment, software systems, and networks.
Key Accountabilities
- Participate in developing budgets, estimating labor, material, and automation infrastructure costs and designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.
- Inspect completed installations and observes operations, to ensure conformance to design and equipment specifications and compliance with operational and safety standards.
- Direct and oversee manufacturing, construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, and testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and design requirements.
- Operate computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment while performing engineering tasks to produce electrical design elements consistent with project specifications accurately and timely.
- Independently solve moderately complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating more complex issues to appropriate staff.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in electric, electronics, Automation engineering fields or equivalent experience
- Ability to configure and program a variety of control systems including Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), and Human Machine Interface (HMI) systems
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of related work experience
- Work well in a team or individual environment and be a self-starter
- Upper-intermediate or Advanced English level
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience especially in Food Process or Chemical Process Industry
- Ability to configure and program a variety of control systems including SIEMENS PCS7 DCS, SIEMENS S7 PLC, HMI systems and PI Historian
- Experience with and understanding of manufacturing processes and methodologies
- Intermediate project management skills
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to troubleshoot a range of automation, electrical, and instrumentation systems
