California Protein Processing Plant

The town of California was originally founded as the township of Boonesborough in 1834 and later as the city of California in 1848. The story is told that the city was named after an early settler named California Wilson. California is the County Seat of Moniteau County and is located 22 miles west of the state capital, Jefferson City, on U.S. Highway 50. The Missouri River runs along the northeastern border of the county. Despite its small population size of about 4,000 people, California has some of the most unique and prosperous industries in mid-Missouri. These include Burger’s Smokehouse, Tana Wire Maker, Arkansas Valley Feather, California Manufacturing Inc., Mo-Wood Products and Honeysuckle White, a division of Cargill Inc.

Cargill is proud to be a part of the California community. This facility was established in 1975 and consists of 110,000 square feet of production and operating facilities. Cargill California team members give back to the community through programs such as the Cargill Cares Food Pantry, the United Way and more!
