Job Purpose and Impact

The Flexible Asset Optimization Lead - EMEA will develop and successfully execute the regional flexible electricity asset origination and optimization strategy using best practices to align with key partners. In this role, you will create and manage a portfolio of flexible assets that can participate in short-term electricity and ancillary-service markets to reduce power cost, generate optimization revenue and lower grid-related charges. You will translate site flexibility and market opportunities into prioritized pipelines, investment cases, commercial agreements, site onboarding plans, daily operating processes and measurable value capture. You will partner closely with sites, business and finance stakeholders, EOT, the Energy Coordinator, legal and risk teams, and third-party aggregators or optimizers.

Key Accountabilities

  • Build a scalable regional portfolio of flexible electricity assets that can be optimized in short-term markets and used to reduce power and grid-related costs.

    • Develop and implement the overall short- and long-term flexible-asset origination and optimization strategy in line with business objectives globally and regionally.
    • Identify opportunities across EMEA sites, including battery energy storage systems, heat batteries, cogeneration, electric or hybrid boilers and flexible demand.
    • Assess technical availability, operational constraints, metering, connectivity, dispatch limits and site readiness, and build a prioritized opportunity pipeline based on value, feasibility, market access and implementation effort.
    • Provide market and revenue expertise to internal senior stakeholders and project teams to develop robust investment cases for flexible assets and align assumptions with business objectives.
    • Quantify potential value from day-ahead, intraday, imbalance, aFRR, mFRR, capacity and grid-related opportunities, including the interaction between revenue streams, operating constraints and market risk.
    • Support assumptions for asset sizing, operating profile, revenue stack, risk sharing, implementation cost and payback expectations, and challenge business cases where market or operational assumptions are not sufficiently robust.
    • Develop the commercial approach for asset participation in short-term electricity and ancillary-service markets, including the appropriate market-access and optimization model for each site and asset.
    • Foster key regional supplier relationships through the resolution of implementation issues and leadership of major negotiations or workshops with third-party aggregators and optimizers.
    • Lead commercial negotiations and define contract structures covering value sharing, baselines, availability, dispatch rights, settlement, data access, performance standards and operational responsibilities.
    • Ensure commercial arrangements are aligned with site constraints, legal and risk requirements, EOT objectives and clear accountability between Cargill and external service providers.
    • Engage senior stakeholders and sites to execute the regional strategy, secure site commitment and coordinate the onboarding of flexible assets.
    • Establish roles, escalation routes, data flows, meter access, nomination timelines, dispatch processes, operational handoffs and exception-management routines.
    • Set up governance for asset availability, dispatch instructions, nominations, operational exceptions and performance feedback, while ensuring that site safety and production requirements remain protected.
    • Monitor optimization revenues, avoided energy costs, grid-cost savings, asset availability, external provider performance, operational exceptions and missed opportunities, and drive corrective actions and continuous improvement.
    • Partner with the Energy Coordinator to identify where peak shaving and optimized capacity management can reduce network charges, capacity charges or peak-demand penalties.

Lead flexible-asset portfolio management by defining performance measurement standards and implementing standardized procedures for a robust and scalable daily operating model.
    • Provide expert thought leadership in the field and work with limited direction, using additional research and interpretation to identify issues or problems. You may provide direction to supporting team members and be a strategic contributor.
    • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • Experience leading projects, aligning stakeholders and driving category or commercial initiatives
  • Experience developing business cases and commercial strategies for energy assets, industrial operations, infrastructure or related markets
  • Experience overseeing the implementation of key supplier or service-provider management programs including metrics, performance goals and improvement initiatives
  • Minimum of six years of related work experience
  • Other minimum qualifications may apply

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in electricity markets, energy origination, flexible-asset optimization, strategic sourcing or a related field
  • Knowledge of European electricity markets, flexible-asset technologies and participation in day-ahead, intraday, imbalance or ancillary-service markets
  • Experience with aggregators or optimizers, complex commercial contracting and site onboarding for flexible assets
