Maintenance Technician

To ensure through planned maintenance, vigilant inspections and expeditious repairs, the smooth uninterrupted and safe operation of the production plant in order to minimize production downtime.
Job Location: Surrey, BC
Job Type: Full Time
Shift Available: Night - Monday through Thursday from 9:00pm to 7:30am
Compensation: $34.81/hr

Principal Accountabilities
- Identify and correct any problems found in machines, equipment or processes in order to facilitate production.
- Maintain, repair and overhaul plant production equipment, building and grounds
- Provide quick response to trouble calls by shift supervisors and or operators/technicians
- Assist Operating Engineers in maintenance of plant utilities
- Perform Weekly Preventive Maintenance Walkthroughs / Inspections / and Repairs on production equipment as necessary
- Ability to put into Practice, corrective actions to effectively address reliability issues related to the above area
- Willingness to get trained in airborne ultrasound, thermography
- Ability to take direction from supervisors and coworkers
Additional Responsibilities
- Support projects include working on a project team in the design, installation and commissioning.
- Ensure smooth, efficient communication to the next team at shift changes.
- Actively finding new and improved ways of completing tasks
- Participate collaboratively in process improvement teams as required
- Any other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Must be legally entitled to work for Cargill in Canada
- Cargill requires that employees be a minimum of 18 years old
- Technical background/diploma in Engineering, Mechanical, electrical or any related to Maintenance
- Good safety record
- Excellent attendance record
- Ability to perform physical job duties including bending/stooping, climbing ladders, open/close valves, shoveling and pounding with hammer.
- Ability to work in confined spaces
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
- Must be able to work under special work conditions, such as extreme heat or cold.
- Must be able to read/write English
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Ability to work overtime, holidays, nights, weekends or different shifts.
- Ability to perform maintenance trades including rigging systems, gearbox and bearing maintenance, lubrication, pumps and piping systems, mechanical maintenance and hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Preference given to individual with forklift certification
- At least 2 years of experience in production related work – High speed packaging
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to perform maintenance trades including machinist, welding, pipe fitting, and fabrication.
- Previous experience with MRO (Maintenance Repair Ops) and/or MRP (Material Requirement Planning)
- Ability to work in elevated areas
- Ability to operate machinery
