JOB PURPOSE AND IMPACT
 
The R&D Senior Manager will lead a research and development team to define and deliver new product recipes or formulations innovation, existing product renovations and value innovation projects through deep technical partnership with key regional customers. In this role, you will partner with, and leverage internal teams, customers and external suppliers and networks to improve and further develop technical capability in laboratory analysis methods, product characterization, sensory panel development and consumer screening tools to ensure a compelling and proactive pipeline of product innovation.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Ensure customer acceptance by applying product technical leadership into submissions of product innovations to meet the key performance indicators of product superiority, consumer experience, launch timing and cost.   Achieve this by leading a team of scientists and engineers located across European sites,  reporting to the Director of R&D,  acting as an active member of the Extended Leadership Team for Protein Europe and team member in local-regional-global senior networks
  • Ensure a compelling proactive pipeline of product innovation through the research, interpretation and application of consumer, ingredient and food industry trends by managing the culinary/chef capability, product design resources and leading innovation with internal-external suppliers in exciting new product concepts, samples and prototypes
  • Partner with internal teams, external suppliers and the customer to organize and deliver technical product innovation workshops to showcase culinary excellence in creative recipe development in-person and/or using virtual communication tools. Partner collaboratively with key cross functional teams to align on customer and product sales, marketing, finance, manufacturing and supply chain, food safety, quality and procurement strategies and create technical product solutions to deliver against these strategies.
  • Apply food science skills and leverage internal and external networks and suppliers to improve and further develop technical capability in laboratory analysis methods, product characterization, sensory panel development and consumer screening tools. Develop and deliver in person or virtual technical product innovation workshops to showcase creative recipe or formulation development.
  • Champion manufacturing and quality initiatives through product recipe or formulation modification to best drive safety, quality and capacity. Provide leadership to further develop the product research and development teams including advancing capabilities and business impact and build the regional and global community to increase organizational agility.
  • Develop plans and deliver results in a fast-changing business or regulatory environment, while leading and developing a team of experienced professionals and supervisors, coaching and making decisions related to talent management hiring, performance and disciplinary actions. You will also collaborate with managers and supervisors in your organization to ensure staff selections align with current and future needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • University degree in Food Science, Food Engineering or related field with relevant industry experience
  • 6+ years of food industry experience leading R&D product applications teams in customer-focused roles, B2B or B2C with customer exposure
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Three years of supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated experience in bringing new products, upgrades, and cost innovation/ improvement initiatives successfully to market with the agile R&D engagement in project stage gate process
  • Deep experience in food laboratory methods and/or pilot lines, sensory panels and consumer panel design and application, with strong awareness of statistical data analysis, product quality, food safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Confirmed ability to influence the business and cross functional teams locally, regionally and globally
