Job Purpose and Impact

The Iron ore Merchant will contribute to handling a supplier base and fulfill transactions delivering iron ore fines and pellet and grow our network and merchandising capability in Indian market. We seek a professional who will help iron ore fines and pellets so as to discover, develop, and execute opportunities in spot market in alignment with our global physical trading strategies.

Key Accountabilities

  • Manage spot iron ore fines and pellet procurement activities by participating in tenders or sourcing other spot opportunities in Indian market. Work closely with physical trading teams on pricing and commercial risk management for each business opportunity, and developing transactional customers that provide spot physical liquidity.
  • Collaborate with broader Metals teams such as credit, Trade Execution (TE), freight and legal to ensure efficient execution and the value optimization as well as risk minimization of each deal. Proactively track and manage the execution of each shipment from commercial side. Backup TE when necessity arise from time zone difference
  • Collect data and run specialty reports for insights collection and implication analyzing
  • Research and analyze various opportunities in the marketplace to maximize PNL
  • Independently solve moderately complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating more complex issues to appropriate staff.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three to Eight years’ experience in commodity trading or dry bulk shipping market with a strong understanding of the commodity market dynamics
  • Solid decision making, negotiation and problem-solving capabilities
  • Strong execution skills, with understanding of shipping terms, letters of credit, contract exposure, ocean freight, etc.
  • Strong entrepreneurship and business acumen
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Solid track record on customer relationship management and stakeholder management
  • Ability to identify operational/credit risks and actively manage risks
  • Ability to work alone and as part of a team
  • Ability to adapt and multi-task in a fast paced environment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Existing client relationship and network within the Indian iron ore market
  • Extensive product/market knowledge in ferrous sector
  • Fluence in other Indian local language
