Job Purpose and Impact
The Chemical Development Engineer will perform moderately complex technical research with a focus on the engineering of high performance innovations for new or existing processes and products and provide guidance to product lines on technical risks, assess competitive technologies and identify technology based opportunities for profitable growth and innovation. In this role, you will develop a deep understanding of our core processes and the unit operations of our product lines and will assist in the optimization and troubleshooting of the product lines where technical uncertainty needs to be addressed.
This position is in Cargill’s bio-industrial business, where we anticipate trends around sustainability, e-mobility, and growing population to innovate and provide solutions to manufacturers in a.o. automotive, plastics, coatings and personal care companies.
Key Accountabilities
Identify high performance innovation opportunities.
Support high performance innovation projects by performing experiments, chemical analysis or measuring process data on laboratory, benchtop or pilot plant trials.
Build and operate bench and pilot scale simulations of unit operations or processes to study and derisk new or existing technologies.
Develop and communicate the high performance innovation technology transfer package to manufacturing technology and project engineer for scaleup to commercial application.
Utilize knowledge in the technical focus areas to address technical questions in troubleshooting or optimization efforts related to new or existing processes and products.
Analyze, interpret and document project results for more complex projects and presents results to cross functional audiences for use in future product development or modification.
Lead small and middle sized projects
Independently solve moderately complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating more complex issues to appropriate staff.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience
Minimum of two years of related work experience
Other minimum qualifications may apply
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in process technology, chemistry, chemical engineering or equivalent experience
Preferably 4 years experience
Project management skills including planning time and resources
chemical manufacturing or pilot plant experience
Experience in protocol development
Relevant work experience in product or process technology
