Job Purpose and Impact

The Analytical Chemistry Process & Quality Optimization Senior Expert is part of the Regional FSQR Analytical Chemistry Group within the Food and Bio-Industrial structure (FIBI), and work is provided to activities in the different product lines of FIBI EMEA. In this role, you will lead various projects across the product lines. The specialist will be responsible for executing critical analytical chemistry projects related to the new methods, technology, continuous improvement projects, organizational structures, and rapid technology deployment across multiple locations. This person will work closely with the Laboratory Lead, Rapid-Technology Lead and LIMS lead, other organizations such as R&D, various Centers of Expertise, external laboratories, vendors, and contractors to promptly deliver the projects within budget.

The current focus is food texturizers (CTS), starches & sweeteners (SSE), cocoa & chocolate (CCC), edible oils & fats (GEOS) and general agricultural supply chain products (CASC) incl. Biodiesel, crush and raw materials.

Key Accountabilities

  • Act as the main point of contact for the organization for new and existing instrument and method requests or technical issues and promptly respond to the business with a technical solution or strategy.
  • Deliver the validated equipment as a package with a deployed method as a plug and play to the specific customer/location—support setting up and providing execution training.
  • Continuously screen market for new technologies in food characterization, generate strategic ideas to optimize FSQR analytical operations and convert these ideas into projects, with clear steps, milestones, staffing, costs and estimated return on investment.
  • Coordinate the implementation and optimization of analytical solutions that may include hardware, software, network and operating systems.
  • Lead projects following the project management guidelines, including building new project proposals, developing project plans and business cases and defending them at different levels in the organization.
  • Initiate, perform and coordinate method development activities to implement new methods or improve method efficiency, accuracy and detection limits, ensuring adequate validation and verification of the instrument and method before its implementation.
  • Independently handle complex issues with minimal supervision while escalating only the most challenging problems to appropriate staff.
  • Support deployment of centrally developed technologies and methods to other Cargill locations.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience

  • Minimum of four years of related work experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of eight years of experience in chemical analysis.
  • Broad knowledge of analytical technology (e.g. chromatography, elemental analysis, mass spectrometry) experience with method development and validation.
  • In-depth product and process knowledge in the food industry (e.g. vegetable oils and seeds, starches and sweeteners, cocoa and chocolate, biodiesel).
  • Project management skills and knowledge of project management tools.
  • Experience with statistical analysis and tools.
