Engineering Co-op (Jan - August 2021)

 

Position Objective:


Provide engineering students an opportunity to apply knowledge gained in the classroom to a plant processing business environment. Opportunities exist nationwide within our diverse businesses: Global Edible Oils Solutions, Deicing Technology, Agricultural Supply Chain, Cargill Protein Group, Salt, Cocoa & Chocolate, Industrial Specialties, and Starches, Sweeteners, and Texturizers North America.

 

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Gain an understanding of the plant, process and equipment by working with a diverse group of functional areas on such projects as: efficiency issues, working with contractors, energy - related process improvements, reliability principles and practices, and plant process and equipment improvements.
  • Work with a diverse group of cross - functional areas such as safety and environment, maintenance, engineering, contractors, and operations.
  • Communicate with people diverse in language ability, educational levels and experience.
  • Learn the importance of interpreting and implementing government safety and environmental regulations in line with company policies.
  • Manage the people, the process and the input / product aspects of a situation to implement a solution.
  • Orientation to the company will be presented and an on - going job performance assessment will be provided.

Co-op Programming:

  • Cargill offers both housing assistance and relocation reimbursement to co-ops who qualify (based on mileage).
  • Day–to-day transportation to and from work is the responsibility of the co-op.
  • Attend Intern/Co-op Forum, an event held at Cargill headquarters in Minneapolis, MN, designed to give exposure to leadership and cross-functional co-ops from across the U.S and Canada (Non-Protein Co-ops only)
  • Attend Intern/Co-op Farewell, an event held at Cargill Protein’s headquarters in Wichita, KS, designed to give exposure to leadership and cross-functional interns from across the U.S. (Protein Interns/Co-ops only)
  • Co-ops who demonstrate exceptional performance and a curiosity to learn more may be offered a second internship/co-op or full-time position for the following year.
  • As employees, co-ops receive access to Cargill volunteer and community outreach opportunities and paid time off to participate in volunteer activities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Freshmen, sophomores, juniors or seniors currently enrolled in a college/university undergraduate degree program in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biosystems Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Mining Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Packaging or other related engineering discipline.
  • Right to work in the U.S. that is not based solely on possession of a student visa or a visa sponsored by a third-party employer
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • All candidates must be geographically flexible and willing to relocate for a co-op opportunity anywhere in the U.S.
  • Able to complete a 7-8 month co-op term (Jan – Aug 2021). Must possess a high degree of initiative and resourcefulness in completing work with limited guidance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Overall 2.7 GPA preferred.
  • Previous plant, production, co-op, or intern experience preferred
  • Ability to relate technical knowledge to job-related duties.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems and make decisions independently.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
