Job Purpose and Impact

As the Director - Canola Trader, you will lead and grow one of our most significant trading portfolios, operating at the centre of global agricultural markets with the autonomy and accountability to shape trading strategy, drive commercial performance and deliver risk-adjusted returns. Combining deep market insight, customer and supplier relationships, and a highly integrated supply chain, you will identify and execute trading opportunities across physical and paper markets while influencing outcomes across the value chain. This is a rare opportunity for an accomplished commodity trader to leverage a world-class platform, lead a high-performing team, and make a tangible impact on the growth and success of our Canola business.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead and execute physical and paper canola trading strategies across spot, forward, basis and logistics markets to maximise risk-adjusted portfolio returns.
  • Identify and capture trading opportunities through market intelligence, supply and demand analysis, customer insights and commercial acumen.
  • Manage significant physical, derivatives and foreign exchange exposures, ensuring disciplined risk management and portfolio optimisation.
  • Partner with trading, logistics, operations, supply chain and commercial teams to drive effective execution and deliver superior commercial outcomes.
  • Build strategic customer and supplier relationships while developing trading talent and fostering a high-performance culture of accountability, collaboration and prudent risk-taking.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree qualified in Agriculture, Economics, Business, Marketing or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience, with extensive experience in physical commodity trading environments.
  • Proven track record trading oilseeds, preferably canola, and delivering profitable outcomes through the origination and execution of physical and related paper trading strategies.
  • Strong commercial acumen with demonstrated expertise managing price, basis, foreign exchange, freight and counterparty risks while maximising risk-adjusted returns.
  • Advanced analytical, negotiation and decision-making capabilities, with the ability to interpret market fundamentals, act decisively under pressure and capitalise on market opportunities.
  • Proven leadership ability to build strategic customer and supplier relationships, develop high-performing teams and drive commercial performance in complex and dynamic market environments.
