Job Purpose and Impact
The Plant Manager will manage company assets, production facility, plant employees, and contractors within all applicable laws and procedures while meeting or exceeding location, business unit and corporate objectives. The Plant Manager will also provide leadership, technical knowledge and operational experience toward achieving safety performance, volume and financial budgets, operating efficiencies, quality products, engaged, high performing employees, and providing service to customers equal to or better than the best in our industry. They will advocate and support change and innovation, whilst creating a climate where innovation is recognized and thrives while also leading the team in community related activities that ensure Cargill is a valued member of that community.
Key Accountabilities
- Lead and ensure all production and operating facilities operate safely and in compliance with regulatory and corporate safety and environmental programs, standards and goals.
- Provide a safe working environment for all plant employees, contractors and visitors at all times.
- Provide appropriate training to all groups acting within the facility and assure safe behaviour of each individual at all times.
- Ensure sound house-keeping practice and sustain mechanically safe machinery conforming to Cargill and Australian standards
- Meet quality specifications and customer requirements through proper employee training, leadership and process measurement and control. Produce vegetable oil and meal to agreed upon specifications at the most economic cost and pursuant to the Business Units and corporate guidelines for the operation of an oilseed processing plant.
- Be familiar with oil and meal customers requirements and align the plants strategies and activities to fulfil them to the customers satisfaction
- Oversee the execution of consistent and quality product while driving reliability centered manufacturing operations.
- Keep abreast of technical developments by maintaining contact with other Cargill plants, suppliers, study of relevant literature, engaging with Cargills Subject Matter Experts and participation in applicable training initiatives.
- Provide environmentally sound management, ensure emissions remain within permitted limits and the plant waste discharges conform to standards as set by the statutory authorities by controlling all waste treatment and pollution control equipment. Achieve the corporate waste and energy reduction goals.
- Plan and install capital improvements as required on time and within approved budget
- Actively participate in and apply the principles of continuous improvement in all areas of responsibility
- Assist and provide information to merchandising and logistics staff in preparation/execution of the crush schedule and plan
- Provide mentoring, coaching and training opportunities to plant operating and supervisory staff
- Review storage condition reports and intervene when quality or security issues become apparent
- Perform other duties as required
Qualifications
Required
- 4+ years mechanical, chemical or equivalent engineering degree
- 5-7 years oilseed processing experience in a supervisory position
- People management, development and negotiation skills
- Business Understanding and budgeting and operations planning experience
- Organizing, Planning and Priority Setting, problem solving and decision making
- Technical Learning
- Process Management
- Process Control Technology
- Detailed knowledge of industry specific processes and equipment
- Basic knowledge of accounting principles, internal control and merchandising skills
- Knowledge of industry relevant and workplace legislation
Preferred
- Demonstrated ability to mentor, coach, delegate and manage performance
