Job Purpose and Impact

The purpose of the Steel Book Manager is to build out the China insight generation model, contribute to steel product line trading views and game plans, drive the growth of the quantamental model and to trade the China onshore derivative markets to deliver $5-10M gross margin.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead analysis, game plan formulation and execution of onshore derivative trading 65%
  • Leads overall SHFE trading and execution to deliver earnings target within predefined risk limits; flat price, time spreads, product spreads.
  • Leverages the analytics, quant and international steel trading view in the onshore derivative market.
  • Works closely with the quant team to identify key trading themes in physical and futures markets and to generate quantitave indicator and strategies for use in discretionary and quant books.
  • Contributes to broader Metals broader ferrous Game Plan.
  • Drives Insight and Analysis 25%
  • Leads and directs insight collection for the onshore analytics and trading teams.
  • Drives analysis and links SND to onshore physical insights for game plan formulation.
  • Collaborate with analytics and broader organization to link insights from steel to raw materials.
  • Leverages onshore market intelligence.
  • Brokerage accounts and derivative compliance 10%
  • Ensures all positions are managed within exchange rules and exemptions are applied for timeously as fits trading strategy.
  • Manages futures brokerage accounts to optimize costs and earnings.
  • Ensures all Exchange rules and regulations are fully complied with.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree educated.
  • 5 years or above experience working in trading and/or commodity businesses. (preferably within ferrous industry)
  • Proven ability to understand and manage risks associated with an integrated physical and futures iron ore book.
  • Track record in generating proprietary trading income from trading physical and financial exposures.
  • Proven track record in trading derivative markets and delivering against PNL targets.
  • Proven risk taking capability alongside strong risk management disciplines in highly volatile markets.
  • Ability to combine multiple analytical, technical and anecdotal fundamental drivers.
  • Ability to formulate and execute trading game plans.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment.
  • Quantitative approach and mindset – ability to translate industry insight into quantitative language.
  • Superior communication skills,  able to bridge varying cultures and job types, ability to influence others.
  • Innovative and entrepreneurial mindset; ability to seek out opportunities in developing markets.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills.
  • Ability to handle complexity and ambiguity.
  • Commitment to internal controls and guiding principles.
  • Mandarin and English speaking.
