Job Purpose and Impact

The Process Safety Lead will apply technical knowledge of process safety to implement company standards for the management of hazardous processes. In this role, you will build process safety capabilities within the region and collaborate with the sub-regional environmental, health and safety team and corresponding sites to provide the technical knowledge and assistance to ensure consistent implementation of process safety standards and continuous improvement. You will be a member of the regional process safety team to provide leadership in the development of the strategies for the deployment, implementation and sustainment of the Process Safety Risk Management (PSRM) standards to ensure a consistent and effective operationalization within the region. 

Key Accountabilities

  • Collaborate and partner with the regional process safety director to develop strategies for regional deployment of process safety control programs and the development of process safety expertise and capability.
  • Build process safety capability within diverse teams, EHS, PSRM Colleagues and corresponding sites by providing technical, regulatory and strategic consultation, support, and training on the PSRM requirements and tools.
  • Provide technical support and subject matter expertise for the deployment of process safety portfolio and projects including consequence modelling, dust characterization, building risk assessment, management of change, Incident Investigation and new build projects.
  • Apply deep expert knowledge to deliver mentorship and training solutions related to process safety practices.
  • Localize the global company standards, practices, training and promotional materials aligning with the regional needs.
  • Analyze leading and lagging process safety metrics for the region and translate them into tangible improvement plans for the region and be an engaged participant in the global process safety leadership team.
  • Lead, in partnership with workstream groups, to develop and improve the process safety control programs, practices, tools, trainings and assessments.
  • Provide expert thought leadership in your field and work with limited direction, using additional research and interpretation to identify issues or problems. You may provide direction to supporting team members and be a strategic contributor.
  • Participate in/lead workstream groups in the development and improvement of the Global Cargill process safety control programs, practices, tools, trainings and assessments
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS degree in Engineering or related field and a minimum of 8+ years of experience working in Engineering, technical operations, project management and/or process safety management, consultation.
  • Minimum 3 years management/supervision experience in Operations or Technical department.  Proven ability to manage, lead, motivate and deliver through others (influencing skills). 
  • Fundamental understanding of industry leading practices in process safety management
  • Strong expertise on process safety management with application of pillars (PHA, MOC, PSI, Asset Integrity, etc.)
  • Knowledge of process safety laws, standards and leading practices.
  • Confirmed ability to handle, empower and deliver through others.
  • Ability to understand and navigate efficiently through diverse networks and across interpersonal boundaries to gain support.
  • Ability to visit sites within the subregion on a frequent basis (up to 50% of the total time)
  • Ability to understand and navigate effectively through networks and across organizational boundaries to gain support
  • Ability to articulate with site leadership and front-line management
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills
  • Fluent in Spanish and English.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree desired
  • Certified process safety certification through an external professional organization or professional process safety engineer
  • Solid experience working in engineering, technical operations, project management or process safety management
