Job Purpose and Impact

LOCATION: Wolverhampton (UK) WV9 5EU

Cargill’s European protein business is a leading supplier and innovator of further processed chicken products for retail, food service and food manufacturing customers.

This is a great opportunity to working in Cargill Protein & Salt business and lead all staff and operational areas of a 50-person shift, following Cargill’s policies and procedures.

Assistant Shift Manager will lead all production and operating processes by being responsible for the operations agenda and leading an engaged team that will execute business deliverables. In this role, you will ensure safety, quality, cost, delivery and morale objectives are met.

The role working hours are 12-hour shifts, 2 days and 2 nights. 4 shifts on 4 shifts off.

Key Accountabilities

  • Directly operate or supervise the operation of the whole production line, lead all staff in the shift, including contract workers.
  • Monitor and maintain proper safety requirements in the shift to ensure the safety of the staff.
  • Monitor and maintain the quality to ensure the products meet the required standards.
  • Provide training to the staff on relevant environmental health and safety requirements to ensure that all staff are trained in accordance with regulations.
  • Responsible for personnel decisions related to hiring, performance and disciplinary actions for your direct reports. You will also spend time completing the same tasks as employees on your team.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Secondary education level or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills and the ability to communicate with all levels in the plant.

Preferred Qualification

  • Experience in production management with the high volume manufacturing process.
  • The ability to communicate clear objectives, provide feedback, suggests improvement for individual performance to direct reports.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to present ideas and goals to different levels of the business.
  • Handle conflicting priorities within tight deadlines and a practical approach to problem solving.
