JOB PURPOSE AND IMPACT

The Biologicals Manufacturing Technology Director provides technical expertise for the design standards, process capabilities, hazard analysis, performance monitoring, technical training and continuous improvements for the scaling  and stabilization of novel biological technology for the business. In this role, you will be responsible for partnering with the business and outside partners to enable strategic growth projects and improve our capabilities by providing process and technology leadership for the organization.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Provide technical leadership and expertise to enable new product or process development in the field of probiotics, prebiotics, postbiotics and emerging biological technologies through collaborations with Research and Development (R&D). Translate technology transfer packages into engineering design and specifications to deliver on required capabilities .
• Lead and provide direction for manufacturing technology resources assigned to projects and processes, including coaching, mentoring and knowledge development.
• Provide technical leadership on the evaluation of projects during early phases of Front End Loading (FEL), partnering with research and development, engineering, and commercial and business leaders to determine engineering needs.
• Provide technical oversight for strategic projects both internal to the business as well as sourcing external partners to enable process technology, engineering scale-up, alternatives review, economic analysis and technology scope development using industry leading knowledge of technical process operations and engineering design for a variety of unit operations.
• Keep abreast of emerging technology trends and developments and incorporate into design requirements.
• Provide expert thought leadership in your field and work with limited direction, using additional research and interpretation to identify issues or problems. You may provide direction to supporting team members and be a strategic contributor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s or higher degree in chemical, mechanical or biosystems engineering, microbiology, industrial biotechnology, or other related discipline.
• Six or more years of experience with process development and scale-up  in particular experience in probiotics R&D and manufacturing.
• Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Ten or more years of experience in engineering, process engineering, manufacturing technology or operations roles in an industrial environment.

• Expertise in encapsulation, formulation and manufacturer of biological materials, including probiotics.
• Ten or more years of experience with process development and scale-up.
• Ten or more years of fermentation beyond bench scale
