Job Purpose and Impact

The Food Technology Research Scientist will use their expertise in food technology and food ingredients to define and execute research and innovation projects  for the development of novel ingredients and processes across multiple Cargill businesses. In this role, you will be part of the Global Core R&D team and accountable for plant protein innovation projects including ideation, building project proposals and experimental planning and execution.

Key Accountabilities

  • Contribute to Cargill’s innovation pipeline and portfolio by translating ideas and concepts into actionable project plans to develop distinctive product and process offerings and support parts of more complex innovation and cost improvement projects.
  • Assist in novel ingredients discovery, process development and improvement and communicate project results, recommending actionable next steps to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Secure innovation property rights by collaborating with intellectual asset management to assist with the development of strategies, processes, and control mechanisms to ensure compliance with regulations and company policies.
  • Participate in research and development innovation growth by collaborating with businesses and with technology partners such as universities, research and development organizations and industry forums, and by monitoring scientific and patent literature.
  • Conduct research and experiments and analyze results including interpretation of completed trial results.
  • Independently solve moderately complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating more complex issues to appropriate staff.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or Technology, Food or Bioscience Engineering, Life Sciences or Chemistry, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of two years of work experience in the food industry
  • Other minimum qualifications may apply

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree or PhD in Food Science or Technology, Food or Bioscience Engineering, Life Sciences or Chemistry with a specialization in Protein Technology or Protein Chemistry
  • Demonstrated track record in applying expertise in proteins, protein chemistry and protein processing technologies for novel ingredient development
  • Profound knowledge of proteins and their interactions with other ingredients in food systems
  • Demonstrated experience in research and development projects of high complexity
  • Skills in project management and experimental design
  • Experience with cross-functional teams.
