Job Purpose and Impact

The Competition Lawyer will independently handle relevant legal affairs across Cargill, with minimal oversight from senior lawyers. We seek a professional who will provide competition law advice and recommend action to executives and management regarding more complex matters or a sizable financial impact. In this role, you will deal directly with more intermediate legal matters.

Key Accountabilities

  • With minimal oversight, research, analyze and interpret proposed and existing competition laws, statutes and regulations.
  • Identify, evaluate and address competition issues and legal risks in a commercial context.
  • Under direction, research legal principles and precedents, consult with outside counsel, draft competition law advice and merger filing documents and gather relevant case related information using multiple sources and methods.
  • Provide expert thought leadership in your field and work with limited direction, using additional research and interpretation to identify issues or problems. You may provide direction to supporting team members and be a strategic contributor.
  • Provide legal advice in both merger clearance and competition law compliance. 
  • Other duties as assigned.



  • Bachelor’s Law degree gained in Europe 
  • Minimum of six years of related work experience
  • Travel might be required (10-20%)

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Demonstrated commitment to community service, including pro bono work
  • Experience as a member of cross-cultural teams
  • English and a second language (e.g. Spanish, German, etc..)
  • Prior experience working for competition authorities
  • Experience gained in-house and/or competition law firms
