Job Purpose and Impact

The Resource Efficiency Engineer applies engineering techniques to assist in the improvement of manufacturing processes and products. In this role, you will provide technical support, operations experience, continuous improvement and project management skills in a plant support capacity that ensures safe, efficient and low-cost plant operations. This role is part of the Botlek process engineering team and the main focus area will be energy and utility management and energy reduction.

The tropical vegetable oil refinery in Rotterdam Botlek is a “Complex Plant” (throughput: +/- 700.000 ton per year) consisting of 5 refinery lines, 3 fractionation units, 6 hydrogenation units, a blending section, a tank storage facility (+/- 170 tanks), 4 truck loading stations, 1 truck unloading station, a jetty to load and discharge sea vessels, coasters and barges and the necessary utility- and infrastructure.

Key Accountabilities

  • Reviews and recommends manufacturing equipment and processes designed to be efficient, cost-effective, and to promote quality and reliability.
  • Assesses current manufacturing equipment and processes and makes recommendations for changes.
  • Reviews the key performance indicators monitoring systems and determine ways to improve their ability to maintain company operations.
  • Leads training of personnel in equipment usage and processes.
  • Prepares/Submits emission declarations (e.g. CO2 emission rights, e-MJV) and returns (e.g. energy tax return);
  • Independently handle complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating only the most complex issues to appropriate staff.
  • Focus area: daily monitoring of utilities (waste water, steam (HP) boilers, compressed air etc.) and leads energy reduction program
  • Other duties as assigned



  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of four years of related work experience
  • Possesses comprehensive knowledge of engineering subject matter
  • Fluent in Dutch


  • Mechanical/Chemical Engineering bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Minimum 5 years of working experience in a plant operations position
  • Data analysis capabilities including continuous improvement mindset
  • Understanding of Dutch regulations related to energy & resource usage and emissions is a plus
