Position Purpose & Summary

The process engineer supports the day to day operation and performs and/or leads Continuous Improvement (CI) and Process Safety Management (PSM) related studies and projects and participates in project teams for CAPEX projects as delegated user or functional expert. The purpose of this position is to improve the process installations/plant to be the best in class in terms of efficiencies, EHS, quality and throughput. The process engineer achieves aggressive goals by applying the Lean & Stable Operations Methodology and by implementing sustainable and embedded improvements. The process engineer reports to the process engineering supervisor and works closely with a wide variety of disciplines in and outside the plant, like production, process engineering, project management and engineering, maintenance and reliability, the commercial team (PLM) and master planning.

Principal Accountabilities

20% Lead and/or participate in multidisciplinary teams to initiate and manage cost saving/avoidance and/or reliability improvement projects. Cost savings are to be expected in the domain of yield improvement, downtime avoidance, variable cost reduction etc. 

15% Apply Lean Six Sigma methodologies, like Kaizen including VSM, SIPOC, 5S, RCA, Poka Yoke etc. for day-to-day operational issues and structural & lasting improvement projects. 

15% Perform and/or leads Process Safety Management (PSM) studies and projects. 

20% Participate in project teams for CAPEX projects as delegated user or functional expert. 

5% Participate in the development and revision of the process engineering related part of 3 year operational and on time in full follow-up of the identified activities to meet the business needs. These plans are, amongst others, developed based on MTL/COE requirements, identified CI projects and regulatory prescriptions and developments. 

5% Work according the defined and agreed-upon process engineering related standards. 

10% Ensure proper implementation of new products, technologies, processes and projects, including procedures, manuals and training. 

10% Ensure that the personal skills and knowledge remains at the required level. 
  • Ensures compliance with and supports in managing environmental permits and meeting Cargill goals
  • Backup for Resource efficiency supervisor for support of wastewater treatment plant, cooling towers and air compressors. 
  • Supports, participates in and/or manages ad-hoc requests or projects, questions, presentations and plant audits or legal inspections.
  • Reviews and explains IBP variances in cooperation with operations.
  • Instructs daily operational organization in utility performance deviations and nature&urgency to take.

Required Qualifications
  • A master or bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, bio-chemical engineering, electrical engineering (or similar)
  • Minimum of 2 years (preferably 3+) of relevant working experience in a plant operations environment or at an engineering contractor
  • Preferable: knowledge of oils and fats chemistry and processing
  • Preferable: knowledge of process safety study methods like SWIFT, HAZOP, LOPA
  • Preferable: knowledge of quality assurance systems and processes (like HACCP)
  • Affinity with working in a cross-functional setting/matrix structure
  • Ability to introduce sustainable change, leading to noticeable and measurable bottom-line improvements
  • Understanding of project management PPM/PDP principles
  • Excellent written and verbal communication & reporting skills
  • Fluent in local language (Dutch)
  • Fluent in English, written and oral
  • Coaching of operational stakeholders, like shift supervisors and operators, to get the most out of everyone
  • Strong organizational skills
