Job Purpose and Impact

The Senior Research Engineer will support a core technology for Cargill’s Bio Industrial business as well as customers. You will drive and support the research group in a given implementation of business defined technology needs. This position serves as a leader in process development, process improvement and piloting efforts and as a resource in one or more broad core technology components. You will be developing, leading and executing research projects that are complex in nature and may require multidisciplinary approaches.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provides subject matter expertise to project teams and functions by offering technical guidance and scientific insight for new process development and process improvements.
  • Leads process development efforts at lab and pilot scale which will include the following technologies: heterogeneous catalysis; catalyst testing; reaction network modeling; multiphase chemical reaction engineering including reactor selection, sizing and performance evaluation; distillation; separation and purification techniques
  • Ensures projects proceed according to plan and results are documented and communicated.
  • Leads new product or high-performance innovation efforts.
  • Identifies and leads evaluations of external process or manufacturing technologies or facilities.
  • Identifies and develops new process or product opportunities that create distinct value and enable business growth.
  • Supports and complies with corporate/local safety and product safety policies and procedures.
  • Independently handle complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating only the most complex issues to appropriate staff.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field OR equivalent experience
  • Expertise in process technologies and engineering principles relevant to process development and scale-up
  • Experience with experimental design & data analysis
  • Minimum of four years of related work experience (can include experience gained in an academic setting)
  • Ability to travel up to 25%

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's or Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering or related field
  • Expertise in multiple relevant processing techniques which could include: heterogeneous catalysis; catalyst testing; reaction network modeling; multiphase chemical reaction engineering including reactor selection, sizing and performance evaluation; distillation; separation and purification techniques
  • Experience in high temperature & pressure processing technologies
  • Experience in developing, leading, and participating in multidisciplinary teams
  • Five or more years of experience in new product process development
  • Five or more years of experience in process improvement or optimization efforts
