Job Purpose and Impact

Cargill Seafood China will be an integral part of Cargill’s new Global Seafood business within the Protein & Salt enterprise. Cargill Seafood intends to become a differentiated leader in the global seafood industry, delivering superior quality at a fair price to consumers and customers (across foodservice, e-commerce, and retail channels) while ensuring integrity of the supply chain. 

The Seafood China Business Development Lead will help to execute and accelerate Cargill Seafood China’s inorganic growth strategy. The role will have a direct reporting line to the Global Seafood Managing Director and a dotted reporting line to the Protein China Managing Director. The successful candidate will have a good understanding of the competitive landscape within China’s seafood industry (processing and production) and how changing consumer and customer needs will shape that landscape in the future. In addition, the candidate will be a self-starter with a high degree of ownership, able to think critically and willing to roll up their sleeves to deliver results.

Key Accountabilities

  • Business Strategy Alignment

  • Apply a broad understanding of principles and practices to execute what will initially be a largely inorganic growth strategy (e.g. acquisitions, joint ventures, and partnerships).
  • Develop detailed profiles of potential transaction targets.
  • Partner with commercial and Corporate Development colleagues to ensure transaction targets align with business strategy.
  • Assess actionability (corporate governance, key decision-makers, and valuation expectations) of those targets.
  • Develop and evaluate research about the industry, including relevant precedent transactions and comparable publicly listed companies.
  • Provide detailed, fundamental inputs to discounted cash flow and other analyses that help value potential transactions.
  • Transaction Execution

  • Further develop and actively maintain a gameboard and cultivation plan aligned with the Seafood China strategy.
  • Systematically coordinate cultivation of prioritized, approved gameboard targets.
  • Work effectively with business and functional partners throughout the company and across the Greater China region (Cargill Aqua Nutrition and Corporate Strategy & Development, for example) to conduct due diligence processes, coordinate the execution of strategic transactions, and integrate these transactions with Cargill.
  • Help prepare transaction proposals and support implementation and maintenance of strategic and operational plans.
  • Plan and coordinate regular (typically weekly) transaction process reviews, including discussions about resource allocation, stakeholder management/alignment, organizational support, and learning objectives.
  • Cross-Cargill Collaboration & Teaming Activities

  • Work effectively across a cross-functional and matrixed enterprise to understand a global business/system with global priorities, and translate those priorities to China when appropriate/relevant.
  • Implement other best practices for knowledge/data and process management related to transaction execution.


Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA degree from a top globally recognized business school
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in a multinational company or a leading China food/CPG company.Preferred M&A experience in a well-regarded investment bank, private equity, Big 4 corporate finance, or corporate development function of a multinational corporation with direct exposure to Chin
  • At least 2 years of experience in the seafood industry
  • Exceptional business acumen, with proven ability execute long- and short-term strategie
  • Ability to solve problems and use good judgment to make the right decisions as quickly as possible
  • Ability to listen, collaborate, influence, and build trust at all levels within an organization  and ability to contribute to a psychologically safe work environment
  •  Proficiency in written and verbal English, with strong communication skills and the ability to produce solid CxO-level materials for both external and internal stakeholders
