Position Purpose & Summary:

The purpose of this role is to provide site-level EHS leadership and accountability for EHS execution on compliance (both legal and company standards), programs and projects. The ideal candidate possesses a demonstrated ability to build trust and EHS capabilities within and among the site workforce, leadership and GEOS EHS/Operations leadership, as well as proven strong influencing and change management skills to drive aligned strategy and processes, as well as being a compelling communicator.

A site EHS Manager is responsible for applying knowledge of Environment, Health and Safety legal requirements, company programs and standards, and driving performance for effective performance results. Key accountabilities include: development and implementation of EHS strategy, management and continuous improvement of EHS results, strengthening of the internal EHS culture.

Principal Accountabilities:

STRATEGIC EHS LEADERSHIP & EXECUTION (40%)

• Promote Cargill EHS Vision & Policy in assigned sites.
• Uses broad and in-depth knowledge of Environment, Health and Safety matters, Business objectives and Business stakeholders, to assure that strategy and tactics can achieve compliance with legal requirements, position the plant for compliance with anticipated regulation, address expectations of key stakeholders, and support innovation that can generate business value.
• Assesses EHS risks and opportunities for the plant, using broad and in-depth knowledge of Environment, Health and Safety issues (including current and medium-term future regulatory requirements) and potential impacts on the Region, stakeholder (customer, community, interest groups, employees) priorities, and Business strategy 
• Leads efforts to achieve internal approval and support at the plant leadership team level for the EHS tactics.
• Work closely with Businesses and Regional EHS Team to define and review EHS plan against EHS Strategies, and for EHS escalation, maintenance and resolution.
• Identify and prioritize risks, and develop action plans to improve EHS programs, processes and systems 
• Establish and continually improve Environment Management system in line with ISO14001 and corporate environmental program guidelines.
• Develop and implement Process Safety deployment plan in consultation with Regional EHS /Process safety Domain.
• Identify EHS risks applicable to contractors and outsourcing services and ensure implementation of contractor safety management system to control these risks.
• Monitors and anticipates change in the external environment, including regulations, science, and stakeholder positioning. Assesses applicability to the location.
• Facilitate Internal as well as corporate EHS audits to monitor progress and areas needs improvement.
• Ensures execution of EHS strategy ( both Business EHS and Regional EHS strategies) at the site level.
o Internally, this includes collaboration with other Business Operations and Supply Chain functions.
o Externally, this may include acquiring approvals or permits with regulating agencies, work with external consultants, and interactions with stakeholders, including community groups and customers.
• Leads or assists in the development of programs and processes. 
• Uses benchmarks internally and externally to identify best practices, consistent with and in support of the EHS strategy, that can be applied effectively

MAINTAIN AND CONTINUOUSLY IMPROVE EHS RESULTS (20%)

• Drives systems of performance metrics, accurately measured and reported in accordance with corporate and Business EHS standards. 
• Provides strategic oversight to Environment, Health and Safety programs at the plant, like the inspection and risk assessment processes in the plant. Adopts standards and expands as appropriate for the plant.
• Conducts incident investigations, inspections and risk assessments at location.
• Reviews and analyzes audit results to confirm that the corporate, business and government standards on Environment, Health and Safety are met.
• Identifies trends, isolates root causes and confirms that appropriate follow-up actions are being implemented at the plant. 
• Monitors and anticipates changes in the external environment, including regulations, science, and stakeholder positioning. Assesses applicability in the region and revises tactics as appropriate

SHAPE INTERNAL EHS CULTURE (20%)

• Builds effective working relationships with site leadership team in order to obtain/sustain a strong Environment, Health and Safety culture.
• Leads development of internal communications strategy for key and differentiated audiences that builds and maintains awareness of Environment, Health and Safety values.
• Influences site leadership, to promote proactive workplace Environment, Health and Safety practices. 
• Provides broad and in-depth technical, regulatory, behavioral and strategic knowledge and consultation that leaders require to build a strong EHS culture.
• Collaborates with internal experts to share best practices, identify leading approaches on Environment, Health and Safety topics and facilitate a culture of continuous improvement.
• Develops, directs and oversees implementation of recognition programs to acknowledge positive behavior and celebrate successes on topics of Environment, Health and Safety for the plant

PEOPLE, RESOURCE & BUDGET MANAGEMENT (20%)

• Leads efforts at the plant to ensure that the EHS talent is in place to address immediate and medium-term needs of the plant.
• Develops a plan to address gaps in EHS talent and knowledge needs and prepares the plant for the future.
• Identifies development opportunities for current employees to strengthen Environment, Health and Safety expertise that match the medium-term needs of the organization.
• Prepares the EHS budget and proposes to plant Leadership for approval. Manages the EHS budget for the plant. 
• Consults with Site Leadership to develop job relevant Environment, Health and Safety KRAs for the site leadership team
Required Qualifications:

• Bachelors/Masters in EHS OR Bachelor’s in Science/Engineering with post graduate qualification/certification in EHS 
• At least 9 years relevant work experience
• Plant/Manufacturing Knowledge - Demonstrates practical knowledge of manufacturing processes and operations. Experience in managing EHS of high hazardous process operations
• Fluency in English;
• Ability to lead and influence without authority 
• Be able to communicate effectively through all levels of the organization;
• Be energetic, ambitious, enthusiastic, have a flexible and positive attitude; 
• Be able to work independently with minimum supervision;
• Good priority setting skills and the ability to work with people from a range of backgrounds

• Auditing/Compliance skills: Applies auditing/quality compliance skills to identify & manage risks/compliance and be able to learn from good and bad practices.
• Managing and Improving Processes - Delivers processes that are aligned, effective, and optimize resources, applies a structured, disciplined approach to planning, administering and completing projects successfully.
• Training skills - Delivers intermediate learning solutions that engage leaners and provides desired outcomes
• Documentation - Prepares documentation that meet regulatory compliance requirements.
• Analytical skills and driven to propose solutions
• Have the ability to work in a variety of team settings 
• Have the ability to analyze data, interpret results & communicate plan to employees at all levels
