Job Purpose and Impact

The Natural Resources and Utilities Process Engineer applies engineering techniques to assist in the improvement of manufacturing processes and products. In this role, you will provide technical support, operations experience, continuous improvement and project management skills in a plant support capacity that ensures safe, efficient and low-cost plant operations.

Key Accountabilities

  • Collect and analyze moderately complex operational data and trends and develop recommendations and plans to improve the performance and reporting process of manufacturing equipment and processes and ensure consistent monitoring and early warning indicators.
  • Understand monthly variable site energy performance. Create the annual variable energy budget for the site. 
  • Collaborate with internal technology and finance operations stakeholders to monitor and manage variable and fixed costs at the site including understanding utility bills, contracted pricing, and energy hedging. 
  • Partner with capital engineers to analyze energy usage for proposed capital expenditures and moderately complex project designs to find more efficient, cost effective approaches to promote higher quality and reliable outcomes.
  • Serve as point of contact and interface with third party personnel to set priorities, monitor safety and improve their skills over time.
  • Partner with relevant personnel from other departments within the site or across the business to benchmark practices and assist in the creation of energy reduction strategies.
  • Become local technical expert for boilers and air compressor unit operations. 
  • Work on the identification of projects for Green House Gas reduction
  • Independently solve moderately complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating more complex issues to appropriate staff.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of two years of related work experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with operations data and design programs and applications
  • Six sigma green belt certification or the desire to get a green belt certification. 
  • Lean certification or the desire to become lean certified. 
  • Experience and skills leading moderately complex projects
  • Strong data analysis capabilities including continuous improvement experience or certifications
