Job Purpose and Impact

LOCATION: Manchester, UK (M17 1PA)

Cargill’s Manchester plant is a production facility at the hub of the UK food, spirit, pharmaceutical, chemical and cosmetics industries. The plant and offices are part of Cargill’s starches and sweeteners business which produces sweeteners, wheat protein and alcohol for customers in the confectionery, brewing, drink, dairy, farming and bakery sectors.

As part of the site leadership team at the Manchester plant, this is an excellent chance to lead a team of professional maintenance engineers and colleagues, ensuring the safe maintenance of company assets. You will help ensure the deployment of best practice maintenance processes to increase plant reliability and performance efficiency in the safest, cost focused manner. 

Key Accountabilities

•    Management of the Manchester plant maintenance function, maintenance budget and in conjunction with the plant leadership and other stakeholders, CAPEX projects
•    Ensure all day to day maintenance activities and projects are executed safely and in line with Cargill policies and best practice, including contractor management 
•    To coach, train and empower the maintenance team, ensuring high standards are set and maintained through regular feedback and performance management 
•    Setting the short to long term strategy for equipment reliability, availability and operational effectiveness via predictive, planned and preventative maintenance work
•    Oversee the sites asset register, stores and parts inventory process and ensure full asset criticality and obsolescence studies are conducted and acted upon  
•    Continually look to improve reliability through effective work processes and partner with Cargill’s team of European wide ‘best practice’ leads 
•    Collaborate with colleagues cross functionally and educate other departments about maintenance best practice and approaches 

Qualifications

•    Relevant Bachelors /Masters (or equivalent qualification) in; Reliability & Maintenance, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or qualified by extensive experience
•    Previous operations and maintenance experience gained within a continuous heavy industrial environment (e.g. chemicals, coal, steel, heavy pharmaceuticals, oil and gas, bio-diesel refineries) – other industries may be considered 
•    Excellent leadership experience, able to coach and develop a team of high-performing maintenance professionals and work effectively with other departments 
•    In depth understanding of EHS and ensuring a Zero Harm culture at all times 
•    Advanced understanding of predictive maintenance techniques, root cause analysis and failure modes analysis e.g. RCFA / RCM / FMEA
•    Consistent track record of running large capital engineering/ maintenance projects
•    Working knowledge of continuous improvement methods and or formally certified e.g. Lean Six Sigma
