Your Work:

Starting your career as a Continuous Improvement Associate, you will work in one of our many production facilities located in communities across the United States. There, you will partner alongside facility Continuous Improvement leads, project teams, technical operations teams and more to execute projects focused on strategic initiatives in a fast-paced, production environment.  Although business processes vary, the design of the Continuous Improvement role is to provide appropriate exposure to the people management and technical aspects of business operations and supply chain.

Principle Accountabilities

Continuous Improvement Associates begin their careers at Cargill  using theirfundamental knowledge and capabilities to conduct CI projects with low cost and risk for a single site/location within Cargill Protein – North America.CI Associates focus their learning and skillsets on activities related to the portfolio leadership, governance and control; project execution, value realization and measurement; capability and culture development; business partnership, and stakeholder management.

Portfolio Leadership, Governance and Control

  • Leads groups through the continuous improvement process for projects with low cost and risk.  Example projects include: waste & scrap recovery and removal, packaging efficiency, production productivity, resource utilization (water & exhaust reduction), customer service response, service request speed, transactional accuracy, defects, strategic pricing, SKU management/rationalization, customer profitability, etc.
  • Under regular oversight, executes upon the overall Continuous Improvement strategy for a single site/location within Cargill Protein – North America.
  • Identifies problems, and applies structured and disciplined methodology and data to identify and scope root causes, and execute continuous improvement low cost and risk.

Project Execution, Value Realization and Measurement

  • Uses fundamental knowledge to develop and manage CI project plans for projects with low cost and risk, and assures project goals and objectives are attained and sustained.  Identifies and documents variances from project goals and objectives, and communicates status reports, issue logs and risk areas to leadership for a single site/location within a Business or Function.
  • Maintain CI project scorecards and dashboards to ensure that identified improvements for a single site/location within a Business or Function are successfully implemented and that the promised benefits and value are being captured; provide results to management and leadership.

Capability and Culture Development

  • Drive continuous improvement capability and culture change for single site/location within a Business or Function level projects with well-defined processes through best practice sharing, vocal advocacy, and visible leadership, which includes the objective of identifying and implementing opportunities.
  • Assists with the preparation of presentations, communications, and training materials to enable change management and success of CI project initiatives for single site/location within a Business or Function.

Business Partnership and Stakeholder Management

  • Directly communicates and informs stakeholders for projects with low cost and risk to provide updates on the project objectives, performance measures, issues and risks. Stakeholders may include CI deployment teams and other CI practitioners.
  • Establish and maintain relationships within single site/location leadership, as well as other teams across the Business or Function sites/locations.
  • Works with single site/location leadership to build accountability of CI project, and ensures alignment with CI program goals, objectives, plan and approach.
  • Challenges the status quo with single site/location leadership and other stakeholders to explore new ways to analyze, measure, execute and ultimately bring increased value to the asset or process.

  • The plant environment is team-focused, fast-paced, and hands-on

  • Our plants are industrial/processing environments
  • This job involves physical activity that generally requires a moderate amount of exertion on a fairly regular basis – involving bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 50 pounds and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds. The work may also involve other exertions, conditions, or exposures (e.g. heat, cold, damp, etc.).

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in agricultural, biological systems, chemical, electrical, mechanical, industrial, Mining or other engineering discipline
  • Degree completed between Summer 2022 and May 2023
  • Right to work in the U.S. that is not based solely on possession of a student visa or a visa sponsored by a third-party employer
  • Ability to work optimally with individuals from a diverse set of backgrounds and cultures
  • Willing and able to relocate
  • Ability to contribute, both as part of a team and individually
  • Strong communication skills – written and oral

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous plant, production, co-op or intern experience preferred
  • Overall 2.7 GPA or higher preferred
  • LEAN/Six Sigma Training
  • Ability to relate technical knowledge to job-related duties
  • Proven ability to solve problems and make decisions independently
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and experience
