Are you passionate about food safety, quality, and analytical chemistry? The Analytical Specialist tests, calibrates, installs, repairs, and inspects food safety and quality monitoring analytical devices for plant production/process equipment. We seek a professional who will work with the full food safety and quality analytical instrumentation portfolio, software and data management tools. In this role, you will monitor new developments on the market, evaluate, support implementation and analyze performance of instruments and control systems and determine necessary steps to repair and elevate the instrumentation.
  • Develop new analytical methods or improves existing methods, Initiate and execute laboratory trials, development & troubleshooting activities  and propose new projects in the area of analytical chemistry and Food Safety and Quality that offer improvements in analysis speed, cost, efficiency, reliability, etc.
  • Provide training, coaching and mentoring to colleagues locally and regionally, including writing SOP’s, best practices and other documents.
  • Devises calibration and verification strategies to assure peak performance of the analytical equipment and documents these in best practices.
  • Investigate and communicate quality-related issues including instrument discrepancies, exception reporting and other noncompliance issues.
  • Provide troubleshooting, diagnostic and risk assessments of food safety and quality performance instruments and control systems.
  • Independently solve moderately complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating more complex issues to appropriate staff.
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of two years of related work experience
  • Proven extensive experience in analytical method development and troubleshooting
  • Solution thinking, practical and pragmatic, problem solver, result focused, team player,
  • Strong communication skills, fluent in English
  • Structured, detail oriented and accurate
  • Strong analytical skills with the needed scientific knowledge
  • Master degree in food, (bio)chemistry, (bio)chemical engineering
  • Five years of relevant analytical experience in an R&D or production environment
  • Hands-on experience with some/all of common analytical techniques such as: LC, GC, ICP, Kjeldahl/Dumas, Soxhlet, Spectrometry, Automated titration,… and related software packages
  • Experience in food, feed and/or bioindustry.
  • Experience with GLP (including method validation) and LIMS
  • Knowledge of statistical tools and software
  • Intermediate computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Word, Access, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Ability to work expertly and effectively as an individual and in a team environment.
  • Ability to balance and achieve positive results in the areas of food safety, safety, quality, productivity, and cost.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities with large projects extending over a period of time.
  • The job may require travelling to support another location depending on project needs.
