Job Purpose and Impact

The Operations Platform Engineer will be accountable for the technical strategy and tooling that supports thousands of application and infrastructure components to gather, store, analyze, alert and report on operational data at Cargill. In this role you will build automation capabilities in the IT Operations space for Application and Infrastructure Monitoring, Logging, Metrics, and Alerting services. The services would be consumed as self-service by the end user through an automated deployment capability.

Key Accountabilities

  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to understand and evaluate business requirements.
  • Lead designs, prototypes and implementations incorporating software engineering best practices, tools and monitoring according to industry standards.
  • Develop well-designed, testable and efficient code using deep understanding of full-stack engineering capabilities.
  • Integrate complex software components into a fully functional software system.
  • Independently handle complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating only the most complex issues to appropriate staff.
  • Analyze technical architecture of systems and applications to understand dependencies, points of failure, impacts, and external and internal interfaces, to provide monitoring recommendations for system, infrastructure and time estimates
  • Participate in a dynamic development environment where solutions evolve daily as customer demands emerge over time.
  • Build automation capabilities in the IT Operations space for Application and Infrastructure Monitoring, Logging, Metrics, and Alerting services. The services would be consumed as self-service by the end user through an automated deployment capability.
  • Build Integrations (API’s, and Streaming Data Solutions) to allow analytical and data visualization interactions with operational data
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of four years of related work experience
  • Other minimum qualifications may apply
  • Experience with modern open source languages (Golang, Python, Bash, Ruby, Java, Javascript, etc.) and frameworks
  • Deployed/Managed variety of operational tools (ELK, Datadog, Splunk) using Terraform, Ansible or other infrastructure as code tooling

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Masters Degree in IT, Business or related field.
  • Experience with measurement and telemetry for application, logging, APM, and UX
  • Experience managing GitHub Enterprise, Zenhub, Sonarqube, Drone, Artifactory, and Datadog, MediaWiki, and Nodebb
  • Experience with at least one configuration technology including: Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Docker, Kubernetes, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to share knowledge via formal mentoring, reviewing code, reviewing design documents, providing technical talks, teaching
  • Experience contributing to open source projects
  • Additional fluency in other language(s).
  • Knowledge of AWS is preferable
  • Preference towards open source technology
  • Understanding of IT Service Management processes
