Job Purpose and Impact
The Transportation and Logistics Operations Assistant, will help evaluate distribution and transportation operations, data and facilities to identify the most effective distribution and transportation patterns for products. In this role, you will help conduct data management, reporting and analysis, shipping, client interaction, business partnership and people, resource, budget and project management.
The position implies a 6-month working contract.
Key Accountabilities
- Evaluate, select and foster continuous relationships with external transport providers
- Conduct routine external and internal market research to obtain market conditions on the transportation & logistics industry
- Vendor management processes; (selection, onboarding, contract negotiations, compliance and relationship management) and drive carrier performance improvements OTIF (Supplier score card – Incident management)
- Analyze and project transportation costs and coordinate customs clearances and permits
- Provide and supervise the distribution, transportation and logistical solutions on inbound or outbound movement of raw material and finished product from origin to destination.
- Follow up with the execution of the shipments. Monitor the status of the loading and shipment and perform track and trace activities to confirm status of shipment throughout the shipment execution process.
- Assist and support operational activities (Spot sourcing/Finding capacity/Freight Booking)
- Perform data entry updates in spreadsheets and databases based on sales orders and contracts and provide data to more senior team members for further analysis
- Timely and accurate data input (SAP/TMS) to ensure KPI reporting and use these reports to drive continuous improvement and corrective actions
- Keep clear track of all papers and documents proving the execution of the shipment and archive them accordingly
- Use extensive knowledge of the transportation and logistics industry to make recommendations to establish good customer relations
- Handle and solve basic issues and problems under direct supervision, while escalating more complex issues to appropriate staff
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Min. 1 year experience in a transportation or forwarding role
- Medium to advanced MS Excel knowledge
- Good written and verbal communication skills in English
- Experience managing multiple priorities and tasks daily
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in FTL, LTL or silo trailers and bulk
- Transport Management System (e.g. SAP TM, Transporeon)
- ERP Knowledge (e.g. SAP TCA, TC1)
- Intermediate knowledge of transportation & logistic market and carriers
- Good understanding of supply chain processes
- Good understanding of business functions, focused on cost and budget controls
- Systemic approach to problem solving and decision making
- Ability to set priorities and organize work
